Wind Cave National Park is initiating a planning process to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for updating the park’s Cave and Karst Resource Management Plan. The primary purposes of this document are to provide direction for the management of cave and karst resources within Wind Cave National Park and to provide guidelines for monitoring, maintaining, and, where needed, restoring natural conditions within park caves. This plan will cover all cave and karst uses, such as visitor tours, exploration policy, and management practices.

During this early planning phase, the park is requesting public input regarding possible alternatives, issues or concerns about cave and karst management policies, and any new alternatives that should be considered. Please send your comments by May 20, 2004, to Wind Cave National Park Superintendent, RR 1 Box 190, Hot Springs, SD 57747 or via e-mail to wica_planning@nps.gov.
