Green Ash is usually found in bottom lands but it grows well when planted in moist uplands. It is one of the most successful planted hardwoods in the Great Plains. Birds, deer, and rabbits feed on it.

Plains Indians found many uses for Green Ash wood including bows, arrows, drums, meat drying racks, and tipi pins and pegs.
