Abstract - Estimation of Flood Elevations in the Vicinity of Cave Creek Canyon, Wind Cave National Park
Martin, Michael. 1993. Estimation of Flood Elevations in the Vicinity of Cave Creek Canyon, Wind Cave National Park. 8 p.
The Denver Service Center (DSC) recently requested the Water Resources Division (WSD) to provide floodplain information for Wind Cave National Park (WICA). The DSC is presently involved in a planning process and needs this information for regulatory compliance. Areas of interest identified by the DSC are the park visitor center, the maintenance facility, park housing, the cave entrances, and Elk Mountain Campground, which are in the greater floodplain of Cave Creek Canyon. Specifically, the DSC asked for an estimate of flood depth and velocities of the 100- and 500-year floods of the unnamed creek in the identified areas. The purpose of this report is to describe the methods used in the hydologic/hydraulic modeling and to present the results of the floodplain analysis for Cave Creek Canyon in the vicinity of the visitors center and the Elk Mountain Campground area.
