Hopelessness. Many men walked the streets searching for jobs that did not exist. Men needing to provide food for their families often found themselves in a bread or soup line. Some took to hitch-hiking or train-jumping to seek a better life. Families often went hungry as the country's eyes began to focus on the 1932 presidential election.
