The Great Depression. The early 1930s were a time of great frustration and despair for many families. The 20's economic boom was based largely on credit. When the stock market fell, the banks collapsed as well. Economic and social disparity followed closely behind as basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter could not be easily obtained by a poor country.
