When a field trip to the dunes is not an option, think about reserving one of our Teacher Resource Trunks. Each trunk contains everything you need to teach the section. For a list of what is included in each trunk, download the inventory sheet.

We currently have three trunks available to choose from:

1) Giant Geology
2) Practical Plants
3) Amazing Animals

The process for reserving a trunk is easy.

1) Download the reservation form
2) Complete the form, including necessary signatures
3) Email it back to us at whsa_education@nps.gov

Once we receive your form, the education specialist will contact you via email to confirm dates and to schedule delivery or pickup of the trunk.

After you've had a chance to use the trunks in your classroom, we would appreciate hearing your comments and suggestions. Your feedback really helps us improve the resources we offer and our services to the schools. Simply download the feedback form and return it to us.

Did You Know?

Photo of sand avalanching

While the wind piles the sand grains into dunes, the dunes move forward under the force of gravity. As the leading edge of the dune ("slipface") gets steeper, gravity pulls an avalanche of sand down the slipface, moving the dune forward.
