Whitman Mission National Historic Site has been selected for Macy's "Heart Your Park," a program that aims to raise awareness and dollars for parks across the country. From March 7 to March 31, customers at Macy's in Walla Walla can donate $1 or more at the register, with 100 percent of the donations benefiting Whitman Mission National Historic Site. To further spread the love, Macy's will match the total customer donation across all stores, dollar for dollar, up to $250,000 in total.

Whitman Mission National Historic Site is one of more than 550 parks nationwide that will benefit from Macy's "Heart Your Park" this spring. In partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the national non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of community parks, recreation and conservation, Macy's stores across the country have each selected a local park or green space in their community to support through the program. Donations will go toward making improvements, such as maintaining trails, playgrounds, and ball fields, and everything in between.

"We are thrilled to partner with Macy's and NRPA for 'Heart Your Park' this spring," said park superintendent, Timothy Nitz. "This program will bring increased awareness of the park and the donations by Macy's customers will provide additional funding we can apply to visitor services. This local site is a great asset to the nation, and we are honored by Macy's support.

"Whitman Mission is located 7 miles west of Walla Walla off Highway 12. The National Historic Site is open Monday through Saturday, 8:00 to 4:30 and the visitor center is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 to 4:00. National Park Rangers are available to assist visitors as they watch the park's introductory video, tour the museum exhibits or mission grounds, or attend a ranger-led presentation. Visitor information may be obtained any time by calling 509-529-2761, visiting the park website at www.nps.gov/whmi/, or following us on Facebook.

Building on an over 150-year tradition, and with the collective support of customers, employees and Macy's Foundation, Macy's helps strengthen communities by supporting local and national charities giving more than $70 million each year to help make a difference in the lives of our customers.
