Before and After 2005 Prescribed Burn

The area just north of the parking lot was burned in 2005. At first the area looked like a war zone, but within just a few months glorious green appeared. Areas that have recently been burned often look greener than other parts of the park.

Area before burn is covered with dead, brown grass.

Did You Know?
On her 29th birthday Narcissa gave birth to a daughter, Alice Clarissa. The Cayuse called her “Cayuse Te-mi” (Cayuse girl) because she was born on Cayuse land. Some historians see her as a potential bridge between the two cultures. Unfortunately Alice Clarissa drowned when she was 2 years old.
