Cultural demonstrations / activities will be presented
every Saturday and Sunday, June 17 through September 4 (Labor Day),
from 1:00 until 4:00. Most events are interactive, so come prepared
to participate.
A family pass good for one year at Whitman Mission is available
for only $10.

17 & 18 Blacksmithing
Learn more about this skill by watching an expert at work.
24 "The White
Stallion"
Author Sandra Stredwick will read from her book and discuss her experiences
learning about and sharing this local Lewis and Clark story.
25 Starting a Fire
with Flint and Steel
Explorers made their own fire. Could you? Try using a flint &
steel. (provided).
July
1 & 2 Cooking, Churning,
& Grinding
It takes many skills to prepare a meal. Help churn butter, grind wheat,
and make biscuits using a Dutch oven over an open fire.
8 & 9 Writing with
a Quill Pen
Learn to write with a quill pen. Quill pens provided. Warning: this
can be messy.
15 & 16 A Visit
with General Clark
"General Clark" will be at the park to discuss his famous
trip and the implications that trip had for the Pacific Northwest.
15 Contra Dancing
- Special Evening Program 8:00 pm
Spend an evening dancing to old-time music or just sitting and enjoying
the tunes.
Meet in front of the Visitor Center.
22 & 23 Spinning
Join local spinners as they demonstrate their skills. Try spinning,
carding wool, or just watch.
29 & 30 Learn to
Bead
Learn either a one-needle or 2-needle beading technique. For younger
children there will be larger beads for making necklaces.

5 & 6 Make Toys
Make toys that children in the 1800s played with.
12 & 13 Flint-knapping
Observe a demonstration of this age old craft.
19 A Visit from
"Ezra Meeker"
In 1906 Ezra Meeker made a cross country trip to memorialize the Oregon
Trail. One of his wagons will be at the park. Performances by "Ezra
Meeker" and an associate will be at 1:00 and 3:00.
20 Starting a Fire

26 & 27 Drawing
with Pastels
Artists visited the mission, recording what they saw. Use pastels
to record your visit.
