Who were the Mungers?

The Mungers and Griffins were independent missionaries who traveled to the Oregon Country in 1839. The two couples hoped to settle with a local tribe and become self-sufficient. After arriving in the area, these missionaries realized that establishing an independent mission would be much harder than they had envisioned. Mr. Munger decided to work for Dr. Whitman as a carpenter. The Mungers stayed at Waiilatpu until the spring of 1841.
