  • WHISKEYTOWN ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CAMPSITE, ROAD AND TRAIL CLOSURES

    Beginning June 2, 2014 and continuing through approximately July 18, portions of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will close to provide for the safety of visitors as the park implements the Boulder Creek Forest Restoration project. More »

Current Road, Trail, and Campground Conditions

Since conditions throughout the park can change rapidly and unexpectedly, we recommend you please call the Visitor Center at (530) 246-1225 for the most up-to-date information on park conditions. As of 2/28/14 the following conditions are:

Road Closures:

South Fork Mountain Lookout Road

Crystal Creek Road (section closed)

Shasta Bally Road

Mill Creek Road

Beach & Picnic Area Closures:

Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area

Facilities & Sevice Area Closures:

Trail Closures:

Crystal Creek Water Ditch Trail

Road Closures:
South Fork Mountain Lookout Road: This road is closed in order to control access. Visitors who wish to gain vehicular access can visit Park Headquarters Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to request the combination to the gate. Visitors must bring a photo identification and state their purpose for using the road.

Crystal Creek Road: The closed section of the road is from the gate just south of the James K. Carr trailhead to the gate just northeast of Coggins Park. The closure will remain in effect for the winter season.

Shasta Bally Road: The road has been closed at the gate just west of Sheep Camp. The closure will remain in effect for the winter season.

Mill Creek Road: The road is closed approximately 0.3 mi. from Carr Powerhouse Rd. The closure will remain in effect for the winter season.

Trail Closures:
Crystal Creek Water Ditch Trail: The Crystal Creek Water Ditch Trail was damaged by a high water event and is currently closed to prevent further damage to the trail tread and to provide for visitor safety.
