Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will plan to take advantage of the recent dry weather pattern to implement prescribed broadcast underburning activities within the East Boundary Project during the week of January 12th 2015. Between 50 - 100 acres of pine and oak woodland will be planned for ignition over several days during the week if conditions are favorable to meeting project fuels reduction objectives. Individual units ranging from 20 –30 acres within the larger project area will be planned for ignition throughout the week. Each ignition of individual units is scheduled to last one day with some limited burn down and smoke expected 1-3 days afterward. The Park will plan to take advantage of forecasted favorable transport winds to send most smoke to sparely inhabited areas of Shasta, Tehama and Trinity Counties.
