Whiskeytown National Recreation Area Reopens to Visitors

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has re-opened to all recreational and permitted activities today. All trails, the Visitor Center, backcountry roads, campgrounds and other facilities are back in service for public use and enjoyment. The closure of recreational motor boating, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing on Whiskeytown Lake is now lifted.Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has been closed since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional Appropriations.

The park's concessionaire, Forever Resorts, has re-opened Oak Bottom Campground, both the Brandy Creek and Oak Bottom Marinas, the Camper Store, and is now renting boats for the remainder of the season.

Superintendent Jim Milestone stated, "The park is open for public use and enjoyment and it is wonderful to invite out visitors to experience the beauty and wonders of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area."Milestone added, "The park staff is excited to get back to work and continue their projects, now that we are all allowed back to work."

Park staff invite you to come to the park to hike to the waterfalls, peaks and vistas. Fall colors in the park's mountain drainages near the waterfalls are just emerging and provide great opportunities to enjoy and photograph the natural beauty of Whiskeytown's Forests.
