Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is pleased to announce a plein air painting demonstration by current Artist-in-Residence Judith Frost. Join Ms. Frost at Brandy Creek Beach and learn to see Whiskeytown in new ways through art. The demonstration will be held onFriday, June 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.at Brandy Creek Beach (near the lifeguard stand). Participants are encouraged to bring a beach chair to the event.

Judith Frost loves being outdoors, exploring the countryside - discovering what is beyond the next hill. Her plein air paintings capture the sparking light and the beautiful atmosphere of northern California. These plein air paintings compliment her studio paintings. In 2012, after several years of painting in watercolor she began painting in oils and discovered the joy of plein air painting. "Viewing the dramatic light of California's majestic mountains and grand seashores makes me feel exhilarated to be alive and free, painting where I love to paint!"

Judith conveys her feeling on canvas so the viewer can step into her world full of pure, clear, brilliant color and atmosphere. "I paint to feel a peaceful oneness with the world, enjoying the solitude of being outdoors." A full time professional artist, Judith has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Arizona State University. She has participated in numerous gallery shows and fine arts exhibitions.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area’s Artist in Residence Program invites professional artists to spend quality time exploring the natural and cultural landscapes of the park. Through the assistance of the Friends of Whiskeytown and the National Park Service, the artists usually produce several paintings during their visit and donate one of their works to the park’s art collection.

Brandy Creek Beach is located off of J.F. Kennedy Memorial Drive, approximately 5 miles from the visitor center on Highway 299. This event is free to attend, however vehicles must still display a valid day-use pass.
