New Concession Contract Open for Proposals

On August 16, 2007, the National Park Service at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area released for public review the Concession Business Opportunity for Marina Services at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The prospectus document advertises the concession contract that will be open for competition for the operation of marina services to include boat and related equipment rentals, slip rentals and moorage, dry boat storage, minor boat repair, fuel sales, and campground within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

Offers for the Concession Contract must be received no later than November 14, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. to the National Park Service, Pacific West Regional Office Concession Program Management, at 1111 Jackson Street, Suite 700, Oakland, CA 94607. For information, call 510-817-1365.

This concession contract covers the Oak Bottom Marina and related services, Oak Bottom Campground and the Beach Snack Bar. It also includes the Brandy Creek Marina and related services and Brandy Creek Snack Bar.

Whiskeytown National Recreational Area is a 42,000 acre national park site just 10 miles west of Redding, California, with over 750,000 annual visitors. Whiskeytown Lake is the primary recreational resource and covers 3,200 acres. Most of the park’s visitation occurs throughout the summer season and serves as the primary season for the concession operation. The park also includes 39,000 acres of forest with Mt. Shasta Bally reaching an elevation of 6,200 feet. There are three major waterfalls on the slopes of Shasta Bally and an extensive trail system that connects the lake and campgrounds to the waterfall trails. Whiskeytown Lake is popular for swimming, fishing, wake boarding and kayaking. Hiking, mountain bike riding and horse back riding are popular activities on the park’s trail system, especially in the spring, summer and fall.

A site visit on September 18, 2007, has been arranged for interested individuals to see first hand the concession facilities at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The tour begins 9:00 a.m. at Park Headquarters, located on Kennedy Memorial Drive, approximately ½ mile from the Park Visitor Center on the road to Whiskeytown Dam.
