United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Redding Flotilla 39 is promoting safe boating on Whiskeytown Lake as part of a nationwide effort to reduce injuries and fatalities on our waterways. This National Safe Boating Week event will be held from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Brandy Creek Marina. A highlight of the event will be a spectacular rescue demonstration by members of the Flotilla working on the water in coordination with a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay. The Coast Guard helicopter will be on display and the Coast Guard Aircrew will be available to answer questions about the Coast Guard and safe boating. The California Highway Patrol helicopter will also make an appearance at the event.

Members of the public are invited to have their boats inspected at no cost by members of the Flotilla to ensure they are safe and ready for the upcoming boating season. Be sure to visit the information booth to learn more about boating safety classes and the latest Federal and State boating laws. Event attendee's will also be reminded to "Wear It California!" Life jackets are the number one way to save a life in the event of a sudden, unexpected capsizing or fall overboard.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is an all-volunteer organization formed to assist the U.S. Coast Guard in non-law enforcement activities related to safety and security on all navigable waterways of the United States. For additional information about this National Safe Boating Week event, or the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, please contact Gordon Robbins, Flotilla 39's Public Affairs Officer, at 530-221-2524.
