Theodore Roosevelt spirit

Visitors who wish to get an early jump on the ghostly season fast approaching can participate in a free family program at the White House Visitor Center on Saturday, August 1st beginning at 7:00 p.m. This hour long walking tour of Lafayette Park will focus on the people who lived and worked in the area through the last 200 years.

A dozen costumed interpreters, will appear on the Lafayette Park paths as “spirits” of Andrew Jackson, Dolley Madison, Bernard Baruch, Theodore Roosevelt, William Seward and Henry Adams, the Marquis de Lafayette, Commodore Stephen Decatur and others, including a spy about to be arrested! Their interpretive talks will focus on memorable moments in Lafayette Park. “Afterwards” will be distributed at the end of the program informing all participants of events that occurred after the “spirit’s” visit!

Visitors for this interactive interpretive program,”: Lafayette Park: Spirits from the Past – A Ghostly Journey Through 200 years of History” should assemble outside the White House Visitor Center on Pennsylvania Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets NW, on the north side of the Commerce Department Building.. Greeters will meet you beginning at 6:30 p.m. under the blue awnings.

In 1926, at age 15, Reagan took a summer job as a lifeguard in Lowell Park, Illinois, two miles away from Dixon on the nearby Rock River. He continued to work as a lifeguard on the Rock for the next seven years, reportedly saving 77 people from drowning.
