On Tuesday, February 17, the White House Visitor Center will host a living history program on Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Robert Bleason of the American Historical Theatre. Programs begin at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon.

Students in grades 4-6 are invited to attend this free educational program. Students will be able to chat with Abraham Lincoln about his decision to preserve the Union during the Civil War or what it was like to live in a log cabin. Each program will last one hour, including a 15 minute question and answer period. After the program teachers are encouraged to take their students on a self-guided walking tour of President’s Park.

Reservations are required and limited free busing is available within the metropolitan area.

The White House Visitor Center is operated by the National Park Service and is located at 1450 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. If traveling by METRO the nearest stations are Metro Center and Federal Triangle. For more information call 202-208-1631.

Zachary Taylor, 12th President: 1849-1850  

Did You Know?
Taylor was the second president to die in office. He spent July 4, 1850, at a ceremony at the Washington Monument. Taylor became ill from the heat and died five days later of intestinal ailments. Recently, his body was exhumed because some believed he was poisoned, but this was proved to be false.
