Information for Groups Performing at the Pathway of Peace

Logistical information is available for selected groups who are performing for the National Christmas Tree Music Program. Here is a list of frequently asked questions from performers.

Before Your Arrival

We ask that you also prepare a short introduction for your group and have it ready for the park representative when you arrive. This will be given to the evening's Toastmaster to introduce your group.

 

 

Parking

  • Parking is extremely limited.
  • There is no designated parking area reserved for performers.
  • Limited parking is available along Constitution Avenue between 15th and 17th Streets after 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day on weekends unless otherwise posted. Additional parking information can be found here.
 

 

Unloading / Loading

  • It may be possible to unload heavy on 15th Street south of E Street.
  • It is suggested to bring dolleys or carts to carry your equipment.
  • Please allow yourself enough time to park your vehicles and arrive at the warming tent 30 minutes prior to your performance time.
  • It is also suggested you remain in contact with your driver by phone or radio at all times.
  • You may encounter law enforcement officers who may ask you to leave the area due to possible security threats and/or temporary closures. Please cooperate.
 

 

Arrival

Please check in 30 minutes before your scheduled performance time in front of the stage. A National Park Service representative will be there to assist you with any logistical needs, and introduce you to the sound technician and toastmaster.

 

 

Stage Facilities

  • The overall outdoor stage size is approximately 42 feet deep and 47 feet wide. The stage has 3 tiers. The front tiers is 21 feet deep. The middle tier is 7 feet deep. The rear tier is 14 feet deep. The Choral risers will be located near the back of the stage, which will accomodate 60 standees.
  • The stage will be lighted, and a limited number of chairs and music stands will be available for your use along with an electric piano and a professionally operated sound system, which includes a cassette tape deck, and a compact disk system.
  • You've already indicated your equipment needs on the applicaiton form. If there is a change, please notify the Music Program Coordinator.
  • Since the stage will be not heated, each participant should wear warm clothing. The stage is NOT covered and totally exposed to the elements.
  • During performances, all music director(s), performers and sign language interpreters MUST be on stage.
 

 

Warming Tent

  • Even though a warming tent will be provided for assembling the groups, a dressing area will not be available.
  • We recommend that each member arrive ready to perform. In addition, you will need a person to safeguard personal belongings remaining in the tent during the performance.
  • There are no restrooms in this area. The closest restrooms are located in the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion.
 

 

Restrooms

The closest restrooms are located on the Ellipse at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion. We advise you use this area as a meeting area to assemble your group before and after your performance.

 

 

Inclement Weather / Cancellations

  • Please be aware that scheduled performances may be canceled due to unexpected events or inclement weather.
  • Notification will be made as soon as possible.
  • Cancellations may be broadcast by these stations: WMAL 630 AM or WTOP 1500 AM/107.7 FM.
  • If it becomes necessary to alter your plans in any way, please contact the Music Program Coordinator at (202) 208-1637 or email the coordinator.
 

 

Musical Selections

  • Your musical selections should represent a "HOLIDAY" theme.
  • Religious observances such as prayer are NOT an appropriate part of this program.
 

 

Accessibility

  • A wheelchair lift will be located on stage left. Please ask the park ranger for assistance.
  • Be advised that there is a gravel driveway behind the stage and warming tent.
  • There are accessible restrooms at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion.
 

 

A Message To Families and Friends

  • Before or after performances, please meet the directors and performers at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion on the Ellipse.
  • Behind the stage and the warming tent are off-limits to public access at all times
 

 

Merchandise/advertising

Please note that band and/or artist can not use this forum to promote themselves. For example, you can not announce or pass out any information with respect to any future performances. Nor can you use this forum to sell any CD's, or other merchandise, that the band may wish to sell or hand out. The National Park Service has a strict policy with respect to any form of commercial advertising and sales.
