On Saturday, June 7, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Weir Farm National Historic Site, in cooperation with the Ridgefield Conservation Commission and the Norwalk River Watershed Association (NRWA), will celebrate National Trails Day with a guided hike through the many trails of the NRWA trail network. National Park Service Horticulturist and Natural Resource Manager Greg Waters and NRWA Program Director Lillian Willis will co-lead this informative four-mile hike through National Park Service, Town Of Ridgefield Open Space, and Connecticut Department of Transportation lands. During the hike, the group leaders will discuss the diverse botany of the area, land-use history, watershed management, as well as teach observational skills that will help hikers locate and identify many of the plants and animals of the area. To reserve your spot for the hike, please contact Greg Waters at (203) 544-9829 ext. 11. The event will begin at Weir Farm National Historic Site at 735 Nod Hill Road in Wilton. There is no fee for this program.
This year, more than a million hikers, bikers, and others will take part in thousands of events nationwide in celebration of National Trails Day. National Trails Day is organized nationwide by the American Hiking Society, a national nonprofit trail advocacy group based in Washington, DC. Originally established in 1993, NTD has grown to approximately 3,000 events across the country.
