Join us on Saturday August 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site theater for a night at the movies. This month Washita's 'Summer Movies in the Park' features a film based on Sherman Alezie's short novel The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. Funny and moving, this Sundance Film Festival award winning film will challenge the Native American stereotypes found throughout film history.

Directed by Cheyenne-Arapaho Chris Eyre, the movie takes place on the Coeur d' Alene Reservation in northwestern Idaho. When a young Coeur d' Alene man with a troubled past is faced with a family tradegy, he must travel to Arizona to discover the truth and put the past to rest. His friend, a nerd who is continually telling everyone stories no one want to hear, offers to pay the way from Idaho to Arizona under the condition that he must go along for the ride. The stage is set for an adventure of discovery that neither of the young men could have ever imagined.

The film is rated PG-13 for minor language, but please call the park at (580) 497-2742 to find out more. We look forward to seeing you in Washita Battlefield's Visitor Center Theater for this trip of a lifetime!
