The Death of Palar

During the engagement, Ben Clark, witnessed a Mexican captive of the Cheyennes named Palar (or White Bear) carry a little girl to the soldier. Delivering her over to a sergeant who told him to run, the man turned and started away, whereupon the sergeant shot him in the back, killing him.
