Voyageurs National Park Winter Ice and Trail Conditions Report April 17, 2013

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minnesota - With the warm weather, trail conditions in the park are starting to deteriorate. All snowmobile trails, ski trails, and snowshoe trails in the park remain open but there are some bare spots on the lake surfaces and portage trails.

With the warm weather, trail conditions in the park are starting to deteriorate.All snowmobile trails in the park are open at this time. Grooming on all trails has ended for the season. Exercise extreme caution when traveling on the lake surfaces due to rough or bare ice conditions in some areas, as well as bare spots on the portage trails. Be aware of hazardous slush conditions.

A reminder that the snowmobile speed limit in the park is 45 mph on lake surfaces and 25 mph on the land trails.

The Kabetogama Lake and Rainy Lake Ice Roads are closed for the season because of deteriorating ice conditions.

Snowshoe Trails- see trail status list at end

All snowshoe trails in the park are open. Grooming on all trails has ended for the season; expect trail conditions to deteriorate as temperatures continue to rise. Snowshoes are available for loan at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center near International Falls, Arrowhead Lodge in Kabetogama, and Ash Trail Lodge in Ash River. Take advantage of this opportunity to try this winter activity.

Cross-Country Ski Trails - see trail status list at end

The Echo Bay, Tilson Connector, and Black Bay Ski Trails are open. Grooming on all trails has ended for the season; expect trail conditions to deteriorate as temperatures continue to rise. Ski rentals at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center near International Falls have ended for the season.
