Voyageurs National Park Hosts Birch Bark Weaving Class

Come and weave a birch bark basket! With the aide of John Zasada, you will prepare the bark for weaving and make a basket in the old Scandinavian/Russian style. Baskets are diagonally woven and the entire basket is several layers thick. The class will be held at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., is limited to ten participants, and costs $25 per person for materials. Reservations and fees are required in person at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center.
Did You Know?
Voyageurs National Park experienced a large, lightning-ignited fire on the Kabetogama Peninsula in 2004. This young eagle survived the fire and returned to its former nesting tree in time for park researchers to take this photo!
