The Monument is home to a variety of habitats, including mangroves and seagrass beds, algal plains, and coral reefs. These habitats serve as important nursery areas for fish and other marine life. Corals growing on and around the prop roots of mangroves in the Monument have recently drawn the attention of scientists. Investigators are interested in knowing the origins of these coral colonies and the environmental factors that affect them.
