The monument for the 4th West Virginia Infantry is located on Union Avenue south of
Graveyard Road. The monument serves as the base for Maj. Arza M. Goodspeeds bust.
Also markers designating trench line located on the south side of Graveyard Road 500' from
the Stockade Redan, the assaults of 19 May 1863 located 150' east of Confederate Avenue
approaching Park Tour Stop #10, the assaults of 22 May 1863 located on the ridge on the
south side of Graveyard Road 500' from the Stockade Redan and the camp site located at the
bottom of a wooded ravine east of the West Virginia markers on the ridge on the south side
of Graveyard Road 500' from the Stockade Redan. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Hugh
Ewings 3rd Brigade of Maj. Gen. Francis P. Blair's 2nd
Division, Maj. Gens William T. Sherman & Frederick Steels XV Army Corps and was
commanded by Col. James H. Dayton. Maj. Arza M. Goodspeed was killed during the assaults
