In this compilation, an asterisk (*) before a name signifies that the Medal of Honor was awarded for actions prior to the siege of Vicksburg,  19 May - 4 July 1863.

By State and Unit


A total of one hundred forty-one (141) Medals of Honor were awarded for "gallantry in action" during the Vicksburg Campaign. This number includes:

      - 122 army Medals of Honor, including 78 for the "Forlorn Hope,"
              22 May 1863

      - 19 naval Medals of Honor.
