Vicksburg National Military Park is recruiting local students, ages 15 – 18, who would like to participate as volunteers in the park's Summer 2014 Living History Program. A meeting for all interested volunteers and parents will be held at the park's maintenance training room, Saturday, May 31st, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 10:00 a.m.

For over 40 years, area students have portrayed Union and Confederate soldiers and civilians in order to help tell visitors the story of the assaults and siege of 1863. This summer will mark the 151st anniversary of those battles and of the siege and surrender of Vicksburg.

Youth volunteers will be trained by park rangers in Civil War artillery and rifle drill and other soldier's skills to enable them to portray the day-to-day lives of these soldiers and will demonstrate these weapons to over 250,000 park visitors this summer.

Union and Confederate uniforms and accoutrements will be provided by the park. Please contact Rangers David Slay or Will Wilson at the park at 601-636-0583 for more information.
