The staff at Vicksburg National Military Park invites the public to a celebration of National Park Week 2011 and Junior Ranger Day.

National Park Week is a presidentially-proclaimed celebration in recognition of America's National Parks, and runs from April 16 to the 24, 2011. This year's theme, "Healthy Parks – Healthy People," highlights youth programs and initiatives offered by the National Park Service to encourage adults and children to hike, walk, bicycle, and enjoy our parks as part of an active, healthy lifestyle. The Junior Ranger program encourages America's youth to explore, protect, and learn about the National Parks.

In honor of National Park Week and Junior Ranger Day, Vicksburg National Military Park will hold a Junior Ranger Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 am till 3:00 pm at the U.S.S. Cairo Museum. There will be light refreshments, ranger talks, hands-on children's activities, military drills for the kids, U.S.S. Cairo tours, and Living History weapons demonstrations throughout the day.

Admission fees to the park are waived during National Park Week, so admission is free for all Junior Ranger Day activities.

We invite you to bring your family out to celebrate this special week by experiencing Your National Parks.
