National Park Week gets even better this year with fee-free days at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees. The staff at Vicksburg National Military Park invites the public to celebrate National Park Week, April 16-24, 2011, and Junior Ranger Day, April 23, 2011, and experience America's Best Idea – the national parks. Entrance fees will be waived during the entire week, making it easier for visitors to tour the park and enjoy its significant resources.
National Park Week is a presidentially proclaimed celebration in recognition of America's National Parks, celebrating what we all have inherited as Americans — 84 million acres of the world's most spectacular scenery, historic landmarks and cultural treasures. This year's theme – Healthy Parks, Healthy People - highlights youth programs and initiatives offered by the National Park Service to encourage all Americans to participate in First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move Outdoors" program promoting an active, outdoor lifestyle while enjoying the history and scenery of our national parks. In addition, the Junior Ranger program encourages America's youth to explore, protect, and learn about our National Parks.
We invite you to bring your family out to celebrate this special week by experiencing your National Parks.
