Commemoration of the 151st Surrender Anniversary at the Park

On Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5, 2014, park staff and volunteers will offer special programming to commemorate the 151st Anniversary of the surrender of Fortress Vicksburg by General John C. Pemberton of the Confederate Army to General Ulysses S. Grant of the United States Army.

The park cannon detachment will be firing hourly from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Battery DeGolyer (Tour Stop 1) on Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5. They will be joined by the volunteers of McGuffie's Battery on Friday. Curt Fields, who portrays General Grant will also be in the park on Friday at Tour Stop 1, and Saturday at both Tour Stop 1 and the Shirley House. The Shirley House will be open on Saturday and Sunday.

Park hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily with the U.S.S. Cairo Museum opening at 8:30 a.m. Admission to the park is $8.00 per vehicle, and all applicable Vicksburg National Military Park and National Park Service annual passes are accepted.
