Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Col. J. A. Orr and Lt. Col. Marcus D.L. Stephens. During the siege of Vicksburg, the unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Winfield S. Featherston's 3d Brigade, of Maj. Gen. William Wing Loring's Division, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Relief, Department of the West.
