1st Louisiana Heavy Artillery, Company C
This unit was attached to the Marine Hospital Battery and commanded by Capt. John H. Lamon. Company C manned two of the 42-pdr smoothbore guns in the battery. The Marine Hospital Battery was west of the Marine Hospital about 40 ft above the river and mounted three 42-pdr smoothbore guns, two 32-pdr smoothbore guns, and two 32-pdr rifled guns. Iron tablet is located outside Vicksburg National Military Park, on former park property in the City of Vicksburg, at the southwest corner of Speed and Pearl Streets.
