Monument located on Union Avenue east of the Navy Memorial. Also a marker designating the assault of 22 May 1863 on Union Avenue at Park Tour Stop #6 and a marker designating the Chickasaw Bayou (26 Dec 1862 - 2 Jan 1863) assault on Union Avenue opposite the Navy Memorial. This unit was attached to Col.s Francis H. Manter & Bernard G. Farrar's ( assumed command 13 June 1863) 1st Brigade of Maj. Gen. Frederick Steel's & Brig. Gen. John M. Thayer's 1st Division, Maj. Gen'ls William T. Sherman & Frederick Steele's XV Army Corps and was commanded by Col. Adam B. Gorgas. The regiment lost 1 enlisted man KIA and 1 enlisted man WIA for a total of 2 casualties in the assault of 22 May 1863. [Refer to Steele of New York] |
