This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Daniel Ruggles' 1st Military District, headquartered at Columbus, MS, of Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Capt. D.C. Gilleylen. This organization was redesignated as Co. H, 2d Mississippi Cavalry State Troops.
