Monument located on Confederate Avenue across from Tilghman statue. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Louis Hébert's 1st Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John H. Forney's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Capt. A.M. Dozier. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume I, page 226; and Volume III, pages 779, 870, and 965.]

Did You Know?

Thomas O. Selfridge

Thomas O. Selfridge, captain of the USS Cairo, commanded three boats which sank during the war. Each began with the letter "C"-Cumberland, Cairo, and Conestoga. The coincidence was noted after the Conestoga sank, and Selfridge was assigned to the USS Osage, which survived to the end of the war.
