This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Ben H. Helm's Kentucky Brigade of Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge's Division, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Relief, Department of the West, and commanded by Col. Martin L. Stansel. The regiment arrived at Jackson, MS, on 1 June 1863, from the Department of Tennessee. On 4 July 1863, the unit was headquartered at Bolton. MS. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume III, page 1149.]
