  • Union Avenue Road Closure - Tuesday, September 16, 2014

    Union Avenue will be closed to all activities (walking, biking, jogging, and vehicle tours) between the Memorial Arch and Pemberton Avenue beginning at 6:30 a.m., and remained closed until hazardous tree removal work in the area is completed.

Monument located on Confederate Avenue at the junction with Old Jackson Road. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Louis Hébert's 1st Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John H. Forney's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. Preston Brent and Capt. D.B. Seal. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume I, page 226; and Volume III, pages 779 and 965.]
