Monument located on Confederate Avenue near the Mississippi Memorial. Three iron tablets located on Confederate Avenue north of the Mississippi Memorial. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. John C. Moore's 2d Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John H. Forney's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. William S. Barry and Lt. Col. C.R. Jordan. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume I, pages 226 and 593; and Volume III, pages 870 and 966.]

Did You Know?

Old Douglas Headstone, Cedar Hill Cemetery

The 43d Mississippi Infantry's mascot, Douglas the Camel, remained with the regiment until Vicksburg where he was killed by Union sharpshooters. Douglas is honored with his own grave marker in Vicksburg's Cedar Hill Cemetery.
