Fiscal Year 2009 Volunteer Report
|
NPS/VAFO Public Lands Day 2009 Thanks a million for another great year of volunteerism in the park! Volunteer hours are up 14% over FY2008. During FY2009, across all program areas in the park, a total of 2859 VIPs donated 50,541 hours service. 7,072 more hours than in FY2008 with a dollar value of $1,023,455.25. Excellent job!
Valley Forge National Historical Park has benefitted greatly from an increase in volunteerism over the past six-years. Volunteer contributions are a vital part of making what we do everyday work in the most efficient way, resulting in quality experiences for the public and preservation of park resources. More and more corporations, universities, high schools, youth organizations, religious organizations and individual families are donating time and sharing their expertise in the park.
NPS/VAFO SCA Clean Up Crew Summer 2009 Highlights for the year include: volunteers participated in the first year of a multi-year public archaeology program at Washington's Headquarters. The Crayfish Corps formed to assist with the natural resource management issue of invasive crayfish species threatening the Valley Creek ecosystem. 61% of the current participants in the Crayfish Corps are under 18 years old. This is one of the fastest growing volunteer programs in the park. Park also hosted an SCA Community Commuter Crew consisting of 10 Philadelphia high school students and 2 youth leaders. Students worked on natural resource management projects and had one formal environmental education day per week. Community support continues to grow for large scale annual volunteer events such as National Trails Day and National Public Lands Day. NPS/VAFO Public Lands Day 2009 Hut Roof Reconstruction We want to give a special thank you to volunteers and partners for their support and helping to make FY2009 another great year. Thanks to:
