Join in the Activities at the First Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade and the Valley Forge Veterans Day Commemoration

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA –Valley Forge National Historical Park invites everyone to commemorate Veterans Day and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 11 at the National Memorial Arch in Valley Forge to honor all of America's military, past and present.

The commemoration will feature two keynote speakers. Kevin Ferris of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Army Veteran and author of Unbreakable Bonds and Retired Army Major and current Valley Forge National Historical Park Ranger Bob Donnelly. Opening remarks will be delivered by Valley Forge and Hopewell Furnace Superintendent Kate Hammond and Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro.

Concluding the event will be an Oath of Enlistment Ceremony conducted by the Harrisburg Military Processing Station inducting the newest military recruits under the arch commemorating the formation and standardization of the first Army of the United States.

Additional activities include: Ranger Tours leaving from the park theater at 12:20 p.m. and 2:20 p.m., American military throughout the ages living history at the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts, and a book signing by keynote speaker Kevin Ferris, also at the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts.

Valley forge National Historical Park is also proud to be supporting the first ever Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade. Come see military veteran National Park Rangers lead the way followed by the world famous Old Barracks Fife and Drum, the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment and General George Washington. The parade will start at 12:00 and goes from Broad and Walnut Streets in Downtown Philadelphia to City Hall and then Down Market Street to 5th Street, ending at Independence National Historical Park for a special presentation starting at 12:25 p.m.

The parade will focus on veterans of all eras from the tri-state region of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. It will commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II, the 50th Anniversary of Vietnam and the 25th Anniversary of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Special recognition will be accorded for individual representatives of all Armed Services from all wars, including Tuskegee airmen, Montford Point Marines and Pearl Harbor survivors.To learn more, please visit http://www.phillyveteransparade.org/.
