Opening Ceremony for the 54th Presidential Inaugural

Lincoln Memorial

U.S. Park Police Security Measures & Logistics

 

The opening ceremony event planned for Thursday, January 18th, will take place at the Lincoln Memorial from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This ceremony features musical performances and speeches.  The ceremony is open to the general public who will view the event on the Lincoln Memorial stage from the Reflecting Pool area and adjacent grounds.  The event is similar and comparable to the Millennium event.  Like the Millennium event, the general public will enter the area through several access points.  There will be a total of 5 public access points:  2 on Constitution Avenue (@19th Street and Virginia Avenue), 2 on 17th Street, and 1 on Independence Avenue.  United States Park Police personnel will check persons and packages entering this area for alcohol, which is prohibited, and other prohibited items.  The public will be allowed into this area at approximately 12:00 noon. 

Street Closures

Memorial Bridge will be closed at 3:00 p.m. to pedestrian traffic and at 4:00 p.m. for vehicular traffic and reopened at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18.  Henry Bacon Drive will be closed between the Lincoln Memorial and Constitution Avenue starting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17.  23rd Street between the Lincoln Memorial Circle and Constitution Avenue and the ramp from Ohio Drive to the Lincoln Memorial Circle will be closed starting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18.  Pedestrian access to certain areas will be restricted near the fireworks launch sites.  The four fireworks launch sites will be on the Washington Monument Grounds, the Ellipse, near the FDR Memorial, and on the Potomac River near the Memorial Bridge.

Media Logistics

Provisions have been made for satellite truck parking in the area of the Lincoln Memorial beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18.  Satellite trucks will be parked on Henry Bacon Drive between the Lincoln Memorial Circle and Constitution Avenue.  This area is for satellite truck parking only.  No crew vehicles will be allowed to park at this site.
