The Major Crimes Unit has criminal investigators and detectives that are assigned to all U.S. Park Police jurisdictions. They are responsible for the complete and thorough investigation of serious incidents, i.e., deaths, sexual assaults, robberies, assaults, narcotics violations, and incidents in which a tort claim may be initiated against the United States Government. Personnel assigned to this Section also provide presidential and dignitary protection, and assist in mass arrest situations and demonstrations. Members are frequently detailed to local and Federal task forces created to combat specific types of crimes. The civilian Victim-Witness coordinator handles all victim/witness issues for the Force in the WMA, and coordinates the program nationwide.
