MEDICAL EXAMINATION INFORMATION

 
Q. When will I be contacted for a medical examination?
 
A. If you are found eligible to continue in the hiring process after you take your PEB (Physical Efficiency Battery), you will be contacted by the medical services officer with instructions on how to schedule your medical examination.
 
Q. Where will my medical examination take place?
 
A. Medical examinations will be scheduled at a health unit location closest to your city/state of residence.
 
Q. How long will the examination last?
 
A. You can expect the complete examination to take place on 2 separate days. On the first day of the examination, we will conduct a vision test, hearing test, blood test, spirometry test, EKG and place a Tuberculosis skin test(PPD) on your arm. On the second day of your examination (typically 48-72 hours after the initial examination), you will have your Tuberculosis skin test results read, and will meet with an examining physician.
 
Q. What do I wear to the medical examination?
 
A. Dress comfortably.
 
Q. How do I prepare or what do I need to do before the medical examination?
 
A. Do not eat or drink 8 hours prior to the medical examination (except water and necessary medication). If you wear eyeglasses and/or contact lenses, bring them with you. Avoid excessive noise exposure 24 hours prior to the examination.
 
Q. What documents do I need to bring with me to the examination?
 
A. You must bring a completed Standard Medical History and Examination Form (Form 130C) and the Allergy Information Form.
 
Q. Do I need to provide any additional medical documentation?
 
A. Review your medical history form carefully. For each item you mark “YES”, you must provided a medical record on the date of your medical examination for any current or past medical condition, recurring seasonal or permanent ailments requiring prescription medication or medical monitoring, treatment regimens for serious illness, injury, and surgical procedures or hospitalization. Failure to provide ALL the required medical documentation at the time of your examination will significantly delay and/or exclude you from the hiring process.
 
Q. What are the vision requirements?
 
A. DISTANT VISION-Uncorrected visual acuity must be equal to or better than 20/100 in each eye. BINOCULAR NEAR AND DISTANT VISION must be correctable to 20/20. DEPTH PERCEPTION must be equal to or better than 70 seconds of arc. COLOR VISION must be normal. Color vision with greater than mild color vision deficiency in any color is generally disqualifying.
 
Q. What if I had or am planning to have corrective eye surgery?
 
A. The agency requires your ophthalmologist or optometrist provide the results of a detailed eye examination no sooner than three months after LASIK, six months after PRK or ALK, and one year after RK. The results must be documented on the Park Police Vision form.
 
Q. What are the hearing requirements?
 
A. Any disease or condition that interferes with the ability to hear may be considered disqualifying. Cases will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. – In the frequency range from 500-2,000 hertz(Hz), the deficit should not exceed 30 decibels in either ear. –At 3,000 Hz the deficit should not exceed 40 decibels in either ear.
