Lincoln Memorial Closed For Unattended Package

On June 24, 2008, at approximately 5:56 pm, the United States Park Police were notified of unattended packages on a tour bus at the Lincoln Memorial. The bus was parked on French Drive, just south of Memorial Circle. As a precaution, the area was cleared and the packages were inspected by the Metropolitan Police Explosive Ordinance Team.

The Lincoln Memorial, Lincoln Memorial Circle south of the Memorial Bridge, French Drive, 23rd Street, and the ramp from Memorial Bridge to Ohio Drive were closed until the scene was declared safe. All traffic crossing the Memorial Bridge was diverted north of the Lincoln Memorial.
