Contact: Scott Ishikawa, 808-533-4165 Contact: Rainey McKenna, 360-461-8737 (PEARL HARBOR, HAWAII) —The National Park Service and the United States Navy will host a joint memorial ceremony on Monday, December 7, 7:45-9:15 a.m. The ceremony will take place at Kilo Pier, overlooking the USS Arizona Memorial. More than 3,000 distinguished guests and the general public are expected to join the National Park Service, current and former military personnel, including Pearl Harbor Survivors and other World War II veterans for the annual observance of the 1941 attack on Oahu. The theme of this year's historic commemoration,"Pathway to Reconciliation: From Engagement to Peace" focuses on the rebuilding and solidifying of the friendship between the United States and Japan. The National Park Service and the U.S. Navy play an integral role in protecting and sharing with the public the artifacts, stories and memories of those who participated in the Pacific War at Pearl Harbor. The National Park Service is the caretaker of letters, diaries, photographs and oral history interviews that are entrusted to them. These precious items are used to commemorate and memorialize the WWII generation. We continue to honor the past, inspire the future, and educate all.
This year's ceremony will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David Kennedy, the Donald L. McLachlan Professor of History Emeritus at Stanford University, as the keynote speaker. Highlights of the ceremony will include music by the Navy's U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, morning colors, a Hawaiian chant, wreath presentations, a rifle salute by the U.S. Marine Corps, and echo taps in recognition of the men and women who survived the attack and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country on December 7, 1941.
A moment of silence will be observed at 7:55 a.m., the exact moment the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor began 74 years ago. The guided missile destroyer, USS Preble will render pass-in-review honors to the USS Arizona and all Pearl Harbor Survivors. A missing man flyover will be conducted.
Public Access to the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Commemoration Ceremony
The ceremony is free of charge and open to the public. Seats for the general public at the commemoration ceremony are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating for the public will begin at 7:15 a.m.
Access to Pearl Harbor
Those with base access and their sponsored guests may enter through Nimitz or Makalapa Gates and may park in general parking areas near Kilo Pier.
The general public is required to park at Aloha Stadium. Free parking and ADA shuttle service from Aloha Stadium to Kilo Pier will run from 6 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. with return shuttles to Aloha Stadium after the ceremony, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Limited Public Tour Schedule for the USS Arizona Memorial
Due to ongoing ceremonies throughout the day, public programs on December 7 to the USS Arizona Memorial will operate on a special schedule. The first public program will begin at 11 a.m. with the last program beginning at 2 p.m. Programs run every 15 minutes and include a 23-minute movie followed by a short boat ride and visit to the Memorial. Tickets are free and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from the Visitor Center Ticket and Information Counter. No reserved tickets will be available in advance through recreation.gov.
Security
Small personal cameras, cell phones, wallets, and bottled water are permitted. Due to strict security measures, camera bags, purses, handbags and/or other items that offer concealment are not allowed. No storage will be available so please plan accordingly.
Dress Code
Military dress is summer whites or service equivalent. The civilian dress code for the commemoration is aloha business attire.

The webcast will begin at 7 a.m. HST and include a special "behind the scenes" look at the ceremony and will feature a live chat during the 74th commemoration where those watching online can interact with park educators and volunteers. Join us for a free special showing of the acclaimed film Tora! Tora! Tora! in its new director's cut in high definition which includes new footage added to the film. This remarkable motion picture was produced by 20th Century Fox and was filmed here in Hawaii and Japan. Following the showing, a group discussion on the making of this motion picture and its impact on the interpretation of the attack on Pearl Harbor will take place.
Marine Forces Pacific Band Performance

The National Park Service will introduce the Marine Forces Pacific Band by presenting a short interpretive program on the role of the U.S. Marine Corps during the attack. The attack sites include Ewa Mooring Mast Field, Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, and the ships and Marine Barracks at Pearl Harbor. Performance to follow.
Air Force Band of the Pacific Performance

The National Park Service will introduce the Air Force Band of the Pacific by presenting a brief interpretive program on the role of the U.S. Army Air Force (Hawaiian Air Force) during the attack on Oahu with stories related to the attacks on Hickam, Wheeler, and Bellows Fields. Army 25th Infantry Division Military Band Performance

The National Park Service will introduce the Army 25th Infantry Division Band by presenting a brief interpretive program on the role of the U.S. Army during the attack on December 7th relating key sites of conflict at Schofield Barracks and Fort Shafter. Performance to follow.
Afternoon in the Park: Cultural Resources Year in Review

Ewa Mooring Mast Field Commemoration

Location: Ewa Field, across from Hawaiian Railway Museum, West Oahu
Join members of the local community and veterans for the annual observance of the attack on Ewa Mooring Mast Field, which was defended by the U.S. Marines. The ceremony honors those who were killed that day, both Marines and civilians.
USS Oklahoma Ceremony
Date: Dec. 7, 2015
Time: 1:30 p.m. –2:30 p.m.
Location: USS Oklahoma Memorial –Ford Island
This ceremony honors and commemorates the loss of the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) and 429 of her crew. The USS Oklahoma was moored along Battleship Row and was hit by as many as 8 to 12 torpedoes during the attack. Her portside was opened up by the salvo of torpedoes and she capsized 12 minutes after the first torpedo hit. Public wishing to attend the ceremony may catch a free shuttle departing every 15 minutes from the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, which is adjacent to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center.
