Honolulu, HI – Thomas Fake, Regional Project Director for the USS Arizona Memorial visitor center planning, announced the availability of an environmental assessment (EA) for public review. The Visitor Center is located at the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, and is owned and operated by the National Park Service. The proposed project would improve and enhance visitor center facilities by replacing the existing visitor center for the protection of important cultural resources, and enhancement of the visitor experience and park operations. This project covers the park’s shoreside facilities only and will not impact the sunken USS Arizona or the memorial that rests above it.
Public participation is very important to the success of this project, and the National Park Service welcomes comments on the EA. The EA is available for review on the web site https://parkplanning.nps.gov (search for USS Arizona Memorial). Hard copies of the EA are available for review at the Superintendent’s Office, USS Arizona Memorial and at public libraries in Honolulu, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Wahiawa, Waipahu, and Aiea.
Public comments will be accepted until April 6, 2007 and can be submitted electronically at the web site: https://parkplanning.nps.gov. Comments may also be mailed by this date to Regional Project Director, USS Arizona Memorial, 1 Arizona Memorial Place, Honolulu HI 96818. |
