Project Name: Fair Play Sports Program

Federal Share: $100,000

Fiscal Year: 1992

Description: The sports program was implemented as part of the summer youth program in 1992 at various recreation sites throughout the city. The program primarily served inner-city youth, ages 6 through 12, from 9 am to 3 pm daily. An average of 800 to 1,000 youth were served on a weekly basis. The purpose was to provide structure, discipline and exposure to non-traditional recreation activities such as golf and tennis, gymnastics, music, health, fitness, and nutrition. Emphasis was placed on team sportsmanship. Free golf lessons were provided by HMS public Golf Course Managment Corporation which had a contract with the city to manager the city's golf courses. Transportation to various recreational sites was provided by the Parks and Recreation Department. The purchase of a used bus was part of the UPARR grant. Free tennis lessons were given on a weekly basis at sites located on or near public housing complexes. Due to the popularity of the tennis and golf programs, the city offered it again during the summer of 1993.

Description: Martin Luther King and Riverside Parks - renovated picnic grounds. Magnolia Community Center - renovated center building. Tobey Park and Harris Park - renovated park sites.

Description: Skinner Handicap Center - renovated swimming pool. Hollywood Community Center - renovated restrooms, parking area, installed a new roof, playground equipment, and lighting system. Dave Wells Community Center - replaced heating system, renovated restrooms, and repaired center doors. Sexton Community Center and Klondyke Pool and Park - renovated restrooms, gym floor, doors, and swimming pool, and installed new playground equipment. Booth Park - Renovated ball courts, restrooms, installed new playground equipment and landscaping improvements.

Description: Frayser, Tom Lee, Fairgrounds, L.E. Brown, Washington, Pine Hill, Gaisman, Fox Meadows, Riverview, and Douglas - renovated swimming pools.

Description: Renovation of swimming pools at the following four sites: L.E. Brown, Tom Lee, Raymond Skinner and Riverview Aquatic facilities.

Project Name: Elizabeth Park and United Methodist Center

Federal Share: $758,416

Fiscal Year: 1981

Description: Elizabeth Park - installed concrete walks, paved play area, installed new benches and playground equipment, resurfaced ball courts, and landscaping improvements. United Methodist Center - replaced burned recreation facility.

Project Sponsor: Nashvile/Davidson County

Project Name: Morgan Park

Federal Share: $455,651

Fiscal Year: 1983

Description: Constructed an addition for a clubroom, kitchen and restrooms, renovated outdoor recreation facilities.
