Description: The city's substance abuse prevention agency, Channel One-Central Falls, provided recreation programming promoting anti-drug use and crime prevention, environmental awareness programs, and history of Blackstone Valley cultural program. The Junior Park Rangers, Central Falls Crimestoppers, and the local horticulture organization participated in the development and implementation of the program.

Description: Whipple Avenue Playground - installed new playground equipment. Tate Field - renovated ballfield. Ricci Field - renovated two play fields. Oak Street Playground - repaired bleachers, fencing, and upgraded the landscaping.

Cypress Street Playground - related basketball court, renovated tot lot, installed new play equipment, benches, and trash receptacles, and upgraded the landscaping. Danforth Street Park - renovated ballfields and playground, and installed new play equipment. Dexter Training Grounds - renovated ball courts and installed new playground equipment. Hope High School Playfields - renovated track, ballfields, and upgraded the landscaping. Joslin Park - renovated drainage system, installed new benches, trash receptacles, and bleachers, and upgraded the landscaping. Sackett Street Playground - renovated the ballfield and repaired the fencing. Veazie Street Playground - installed new playground equipment and park furniture, and renovated walking paths.

Project Name: ZooPower-Drug Abuse Prevention

Federal Share: $100,000

Fiscal Year: 1992

Description: The city developed a program ZooPower which operated as an alternative to anti-social behavior activities. The program featured the Roger Williams Park Zoo Discovery Center that provided classroom, laboratory and an outdoor education. The program included discussions, interative computers, experiments, and slide/video presentations all with a drug prevention theme. Teens were recruited and trained as Zoo Rangers to assist the Zoo personnel in caring for the animals, and assisted with the zoomobile program that went into targeted neighborhoods.

Description: Installed energy saving devices for the ice rink and swimming pool.
