Fiscal Year: 1980

Description: Chosenwood Park - repair ramps and walkways, steps, grading, parking area, renovate ball courts, playground area, picnic area, install new fencing and benches. Underwood Hills Park - renovated ramps, walkways, bridge, ballfield, install new playground equipment and park furniture. Dean Rusk Park - renovated play courts and walkways, planted new trees and landscaping. Orme Park - improved erosion control, landscaping, repaired walkways, installed new playground equipment, park furniture, and exercise equipment, and upgraded landscaping. Peyton Forrest Park - improved landscaping and erosion control, renovated ball courts, installed new softball backstop and picnic tables and benches. Removed old building foundation. Wilson Mill Park - improved landscaping and erosion control drainage system, installed new benches, repaired swimming pool filtration system, walkways, playground equipment, and play courts. Pittman Park - renovated walkways, gym floor heating/air conditioning system, swimming pool, and installed new exterior recreation center doors.

Description: Brownwood Park - renovated recreation center, picnic pavillion, and ball courts. Perkerson Park - renovated recreation center basement, restrooms, outdoor restrooms, playground, shelter, ballfields, tennis courts, bleachers, and installed new playground equipment. Bellwood Boys and Girls Club - renovated swimming pool, gym, athletic field, handicap access improvements, and installed new playground equipment. Fulton Boys and Girls Club - renovated club building and roof.

John A. White Park in Atlanta, Georgia
John A White Junior Golf Program for inner-city youth

Project Name: Junior Golf Program for Inner-city Youth

Federal Share: $100,000

Fiscal Year: 1992

Description: The Junior Golf Program at the John A. White Park introduced inner-city youth ages 7 through 14 to golf. Participants were taught club selection, swing and alignment, putting and chipping as well as the rules and etiquette of the game. The course included "hands-on" experience in choosing, fitting and repairing golf clubs, how or organize and conduct golf tournaments, course maintenance and golf cart upkeep. A number of nonprofit, professional, and amateur orgaizations donated time and equipment for the program. Due to its popularity the city's recreation department offers the junior golf program as part of its summer recreation program.

Project Name: Daniel Stanton Recreation Center

Description: The recreation center is located in the Peoplestown community of Atlanta. Renovation of the center included correcting water and moisture problems, interior and exterior erosion control improvements, installation of new bleachers, air conditioning system, lighting, handicap access ramps, and renovated the parking lot, and restrooms.

Project Name: Project Learn and Play

Description: An after school education and recreation program for youth ages 6 to 18 located at the Perkerson Park Youth Sports Complex. The program was designed to promote academic achievement, anti-drug and crime activities, self-awareness programs, along with recreation activities to build youth self esteem.

Project Name: South Bend Neighborhood Center

Description: Completely renovate 50-year old facility. Old walls, roof, and flooring replaced. Access improvements to meet current ADA requirements. New heating/air conditioning system installed.

Project Name: Housing Authority Recreation Program

Federal Share: $100,000

Fiscal Year: 1992

Description: The city's police, housing agencies and park department teamed up during the summer of 1992 to improve recreation opportunities for disadvantaged youth. Through joint efforts of the three agencies, supplemented by a UPARR grant, staffing, supervision, equipment and supplies were increased at nine recreation centers. More than 500 children per day came to the centers at the hight of the summer program. In addition to the expanded summer recreation activities, the recreation department also provided transportation between recreation centers so that youth could participate in a greater variety of recreation activities.

Description: Renovation of this 43 year-old facility included new heating and air conditioning system, new floor, remodeled rooms for space efficiency, plumbing and electrical systems, and handicap access improvements.

Project Name: Middle School Extended Hours Program

Federal Share: $48,109

Fiscal Year: 1994

Description: Recreation programs and education assistance were provided at three middle schools for at risk youth ages 12 through 15. Program consisted of basketball, flag football, volleyball, table tennis, and wiffleball. Educational components included tutoring, homework assistance, anti-drug and gang programs, self esteem building, and peer mediation.

Description: May Street Center - new heating/air conditioning system, and interior and exterior building repairs. Tompkins Recreation Center - renovated heating/air conditioning system, lighting, and vaious interior and exterior repairs. Crawford Square - installed playground equipment and lighting, and landscaping improvments. Live Oak Park - installed playground equipment and park furniture, and landscaping improvements.

Description: Davant Park - installed new playground equipment, picnic tables and benches, irrigation system, repaired the shelter and water fountains, planted trees and shrubs. Well Park - renovated ball courts, grading, water fountains, installed new playground equipment, picnic tables and benches, and fencing. Cann Park - renovated ballfield, grading, irrigation system, planted shrubs and trees, installed new benches and water fountains. Tompkins Recreation Center Swimming Pool - replaced deck and piping.

Project Name: Improve Recreation Service for Handicap

Federal Share: $97,127

Fiscal Year: 1982

Description: Purchased two passenger vans, installed a new ramp at May Street Center, installed handicap accessible playground equipment at Daffin Park, and developed and implemented recreation programs for disabled at the above sites.

Project Name: Soldiers Field Playground/Hubert Middle School Ballfield

Federal Share: $141,610

Fiscal Year: 1983

Description: Renovations included demolition, grading, drainage, landscaping, installed new playground equipment, lighting, fencing, backstop, bleachers, water fountains, benches, bollards, sidewalks and lighting.
